Established in 1982 by Bernie Melvin, Soot Master Chimney Sweeping is a proud, family-owned business in our community. For over 40 years, they have dedicated themselves to keeping Central Coast families safe and warm. From their very first day, exceptional customer service, fair pricing, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to safety have been the pillars of everything they do.

Bernie successfully led the company until 2020, when his son, Ryan and wife, Angie purchased the business and Bernie happily retired.

Ryan and Angie strive to uphold the same foundational values that built their reputation. They treat every home they enter with the same care, respect, and precision as if it were their own.

Ryan

Ryan is Co-Owner of Soot Master Chimney Sweeping. He handles everything in the field, including chimney sweeping, safety inspections, repairs, and dryer vent cleanings. Ryan’s commitment to excellence is backed by elite industry credentials. He is a certified chimney sweep through the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and holds the prestigious designation of F.I.R.E. Certified Inspector (Fire Investigation Research & Education).
This rigorous training ensures that every inspection and repair meets the highest safety standards in the industry.
When he’s not up on a roof or inside a chimney, Ryan finds balance through a diverse range of passions. An avid outdoorsman and musician, he can often be found hiking local trails, playing guitar, reading a good book, or practicing yoga. His dedication to wellness is deeply rooted; as a certified Ayurvedic and Yoga therapist, he integrates these ancient healing practices into his daily life through yoga and by crafting healthy, mindful meals with his wife, Angie.

Angie

Angie is co-owner and head of customer service at Soot Master Chimney Sweeping. She has over 26 years of combined experience in customer service and office management. She has
mastered the art of blending professional efficiency with a deeply personal touch. She handles everything behind the scenes, including answering phones and emails, invoicing, bookkeeping, and scheduling appointments, all while ensuring every interaction is met with genuine care.
When she isn't streamlining operations, Angie finds balance through her passions for hiking, music, and jewelry making. A certified Ayurvedic and yoga practitioner, she brings a unique perspective to her life and work, fueled by a compassionate and personal interest in complex chronic illness and chronic Lyme disease. Whether she's spending quality time with her husband, Ryan, or laughing with family and friends, Angie's kind spirit shines through in everything she does.
